Research progress on exosome-mediated regulation of mitochondrial function in Alzheimer's disease
“Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a complex neurodegenerative disease that currently lacks effective treatment options. Mitochondrial dysfunction plays a key role in the occurrence and development of Alzheimer's disease, including energy metabolism disorders, excessive production of reactive oxygen species, abnormal mitochondrial dynamics, and impaired mitochondrial autophagy. Extracellular vesicles, as an important medium for intercellular communication, are considered to play a crucial regulatory role in neurodegenerative diseases due to their ability to carry bioactive substances such as microRNAs, proteins, and mitochondrial components. Experts reviewed the research progress of extracellular vesicles in regulating mitochondrial function in Alzheimer's disease, exploring their potential mechanisms in regulating mitochondrial biogenesis, dynamic balance (including mitochondrial fusion and fission), autophagy clearance, and related signaling pathways, providing reference for exploring new intervention strategies for Alzheimer's disease.”
